Kevin Maynor

Kevin Maynor has scored successes in over 50 operatic roles in five different languages. The first apprentice artist from the West to study at the Bolshoi in Moscow, Mr. Maynor is a Fulbright Award winner and a recipient of the George London Award, as well as a Richard Tucker Career Grant.

Highlights of Mr. Maynor's 2008–2009 season include a 14-city concert tour of the US, followed by the Verdi and Brahms requiems, respectively, with the Santa Fe Symphony. In 2007–2008, Mr. Maynor performed recitals in New York at Adelphi University and St. Francis College. He also performed with the Anchorage Opera, Opera Birmingham, and the Midland Symphony Orchestra, as well as a concert performance of Turandot with the New York City Opera and the Westfield Symphony Orchestra. The celebrated bass also performed the role of Grabeau in Anthony Davis’s Amistad during the Spoleto USA festival. Mr. Maynor recently joined soprano Jessye Norman in a fundraiser for the homeless in New York City with the Partnership for the Homeless organization.

Mr. Maynor made his New York City Opera debut in Philip Glass’s Akhnaten. His impressive list of credits also includes the San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, and Santa Fe operas. He performed in the world premieres of Ulyssess Kay’s Frederick Douglass with the New Jersey State Opera and Anthony Davis’s X with the America Music Theater Festival in Philadelphia. Mr. Maynor was also the winner of an AUDELCO Award for his performance as Paul Robeson with the New Federal Theatre in New York City.

Mr. Maynor is a gifted recitalist, and has performed a wide variety of programs throughout North America and Europe. He has appeared as soloist with orchestras across the country, including the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Fort Worth Symphony, the New Orleans Symphony, and the Milwaukee Symphony. He has worked with such conductors as Dennis Russell Davies, Sarah Caldwell, Christopher Keene, Klaus Donath, Gabor Ötvös, Ferdinand Leitner, John Maucieri, Richard Woitach, Eve Queler, Robert Shaw, and Julius Rudel.

Kevin Maynor has recorded for Telarc, Fleur de Son Classics, Guild, Legato Records, and Sony Music (Beijing). Mr. Maynor has earned degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, Bradley University, and Northwestern University. He is currently a doctoral candidate at Indiana University in Bloomington.
